Summer is a fun and exciting time for students. Oftentimes, families get too busy and forget to include reading into their busy schedules or children may not have access to books at their reading level. This can cause a Summer Slide or Summer Learning Loss, the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the summer. Your child has worked hard all year on his/her reading and has made great progress! It is important for all children to continue reading over the summer in order to prevent the Summer Slide and keep his/her reading skills sharp. It is equally important for your child to read books at his or her independent level to avoid frustration and to practice fluency. In order to keep your child reading our book room will be open a few days over the summer break. We would like to make these books available to all of our HBES students. We encourage you to bring your child in to borrow a few books at their reading level. Students will be able to exchange and return books on the dates listed below. July 9th, 12-1pm August 7th, 12-1pm Thank you for your support at home and we hope to see you over the summer!
